What is a CNC machine?
A CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machine is technically any machine that uses computer programming to create an object. In most cases, however, CNC refers to a computerized machine that manipulates machine shop tools. Derived from 3D printing technologies, CNC machines can transform a block of material, such as plastic and chip away until it arrives at the finished product – generally a prototype part. These machines have come a long way from 3D printing. While a 3D printer might work wonders with plastic, it literally can’t cut it when it comes to aluminum, steel or titanium.
Almost anything can be made with a CNC machine, but most of these expensive machines are built for uniquely specialized industrial manufacturing processes. Working with a CNC machine involves three conventional machining technologies: drilling, milling and the use of lathes.

Many manufacturers are turning to CNCs for better results. Standard industrial equipment like drills and mills are now operated through computers to gain better control, streamline the process and create more uniformity in finished products.
