BlackHawk Industrial Plays an Important Role with the Indian Energy Industry
Indian Oil Production Overview
With proven oil reserves of 5,675 million barrels, India is ranked at 21st position amongst all the nations with proven oil reserves. In 2018, government reports show that India had 4.5 thousand million barrels of proven oil reserves and produced 39.5 million tons. As of April 2019, India had a network of 10,419 km of crude pipeline having a capacity of 145.6 mmtpa. Oil is among the eight core industries of India allowing it to play a vital role in influencing decision making for other important sections of the economy.
According to Greg Hibblen, General Manager of BlackHawk Industrial Pumps & Services (BHID), “The pump division has been building Oilfield Cementing packages for the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) in Mumbai, for use offshore in India since 2004. ONGC is an Indian public sector multinational crude oil and gas company, owned by the Government of India.”
How do the Pumps Work?
The BlackHawk 4x4x12 pump mixes water and cement, while the BlackHawk 6x5x11 pump supplies the finished cement mixture to the large plunger pump that forces the mixture down the well to create the well casing.
How Does BlackHawk Industrial Produce Oilfield Cementing Packages?
Each pump and package is built, assembled, and painted at BlackHawk Pumps & Services. It’s tested in our ISO 9000 register facility before assembly. After assembly, the completed package is then retested to guarantee it performs to the customer’s specification.
Each system consists of two BlackHawk Centrifugal pumps driven by 60 HP explosion proof ABB/Baldor motors. the pumps use lip seals to seal the shaft from leakage. The seals are lubricated with oil system circulated consisting of a small Oberdorfer gear pump, backpressure regulator and an oil reservoir. The seal system handles the abrasive cement mixture being pumped without the potential of catastrophic failure that a mechanical seal could create.
The BlackHawk 4x4x12 pump uses a speed increasing gear box to operate at the higher speeds required by the application. The pumps are controlled by custom NEMA 7 explosion proof starter panels. Along with the packages, a complete set of manuals and test results is sent to the customer in India. The pumps are running on “jackup” rigs such as the Sagar Uday, Sagar Kiran, Sagar Ratna and Sagar Shakti.
Pump Maintenance
In addition to providing the pump packages, BHID’s Pumps & Services also maintains equipment. After 5 years at sea the “jackup” rigs have taken a beating. That’s why ONGC brings them in for maintenance, refit and repair roughly every 5 years. As part of this refit program they update and replace the cementing pumps used in the drilling process.
BHID Pumps and Services is pleased to continue to send Oilfield Cementing packages to India. Hibblen said that four more units are scheduled for delivery by the end of this year.
