Packaging Challenges Identified

What kinds of challenges do we see in packaging? As many as there are different ways to pack a product. For example, a BlackHawk packaging analysis might identify:

• Inefficient workflows. We examine your packing processes from start to finish. We determine the steps and the amount of handling, which creates the risk of damage. We may recommend automated solutions to reduce time, number of touches and means of transport within your facility.

• Wasted space. Oversized packages require more void fill material, are more expensive to ship and consume valuable warehouse space. Solutions can include custom-sized boxes for frequently shipped items, or process changes.

• Damage control. We recommend options for edge protection, boxes, strapping and wrapping to provide a safer, more secure package.

• Slow tracking. Manual tracking systems are slow and don’t provide timely data. Label printers, bar code readers and automated sensors allow faster routing and real-time tracking.

• Weighty matters. Package weight is one of the critical cost factors in packaging. Lighter materials can deliver the same strength and protection of heavier stock at a fraction of the cost.

• Need to green up. Environmentally conscious customers prefer to do business with companies that invest in sustainable practices. Often they don’t want the disposal problems of materials like Styrofoam. Replacing foam with paper or air-pack void filler is one answer.
